There are numerous cultural interpretations of Death or the act of dying, but all agree that death is a form of transformation. Perhaps it is even a rebirth of sorts. In this illustration, Death is depicted as a motherly "gate keeper" whose "cocoon" protects the spirits of those that pass on into the next world.
